About Darla Fisher-Odjig
My Vision: It is my belief that extraction toward abstraction & impressionism is vital to our children and their ability to see more of what is within, to form ideas and ideals, to create beyond what is already there inventing that which would not be recognized if not for that connection to the abyss, if not for the courage to go toward the unknown. What happens every day is recorded and stored deep in our psyche and identifying the many parts of the abstraction gives a deeper understanding as to who we are and what we do. Our history is therefore a crucial part of who we are and why we are the way we are. Our environment is also a stepping stone toward the character map we so embrace and live by. The sharing through symbology/pictorial imaging precipitates a phenomenon of integrated thoughts and unified precedence toward the enhancing of emotion and identification of authentic values and feelings. The “in the moment “experience that allows through these paintings an understanding toward an empathic sense is real and at times frightening. This series of artistic abstraction will be a glimpse pertaining to my life as a First Nations woman artist a look into many journeys that encompass empathy and perseverance toward the freedom to be myself. Connecting with the public through the art and its symbolic representation will be a moving and gripping sense of emotional maturation that may be enlightening to all who brave the journey within these symbolic images.
